Mega Man: Dual Override Controls and Difficulty

Mega Man: Dual Override controls from the PlayStation demo (slide, Custom Chips, weapon swap), plus what Capcom has not decided for retail difficulty and lives.

FAQ

Does slide still require pressing down plus jump?
Not in the Gamescom 2026 demo on PlayStation. Phil Hornshaw’s PlayStation Blog hands-on on 2026-08-26 reports slide on its own button (Circle on PS), unlike Mega Man 11’s down-plus-jump slide.
How many Custom Chips could demo players equip?
Outlets disagreed on presentation. PlayStation Blog (2026-08-26) describes picking one chip before a stage. Game Rant and PlayStation Universe describe three preset chip sets. Capcom stated through an Xbox livestream recap that the three presets were for the demo and retail players will assemble their own chips.
Will the retail game have lives and Game Overs?
Not announced. The Gamescom demo build had no lives and used checkpoints (PlayStation Blog). Capcom told Nintendo Everything on 2026-09-04 that the demo was made accessible so players could go through the stage freely, and that the final game’s approach is still under consideration.
Are difficulty modes like Mega Man 11 confirmed?
No. Nintendo Everything (2026-09-04) and GosuGamers’ Tokyo Game Show coverage report that difficulty options are still under consideration and not announced.

What controls are confirmed so far?

Hands-on

Everything below reflects demo-build information, chiefly the Gamescom 2026 hands-on described with a PlayStation controller layout. Capcom has not published final default bindings for Xbox, Switch, or PC. Demo rules may differ from retail; see demo and events for where those builds appeared.

Movement and slide

Phil Hornshaw wrote on the PlayStation Blog (2026-08-26) that slide has a dedicated button—Circle on PlayStation—rather than a down-plus-jump chord like Mega Man 11.

Game Rant (Greysun Morales, 2026-08-31) adds that the Built for Survival preset included an extra E-Tank, and the No Chip Support preset could call Rush Coil—both are hands-on demo notes, not confirmed retail features.

The Jet Stinger name comes from PlayStation Universe’s demo coverage; Capcom has not confirmed final weapon naming for retail.

Stage structure (official)

Capcom’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 Spotlight presentation (YouTube subtitles, September 2026) states each Robot Master stage is built from three parts, whereas the classic games had eight main stages that each ended in a boss.

Getting started: what a first-time player should know

No official beginner guide exists yet, so this is only what Capcom and the demo reports have said:

  • Slide has its own button, not a down-plus-jump chord (PlayStation Blog, Gamescom 2026 demo).
  • Custom Chips are activated with a button in the demo (R2 on PlayStation), and retail chip loadouts are player-built. See Custom Chips.
  • Each Robot Master stage is built from three parts, per Capcom’s TGS 2026 Spotlight.
  • The demo used checkpoints and had no lives; the retail approach is still under consideration.
  • Unsure whether you need the older games? Capcom has not said Mega Man 11 is required. See Do you need Mega Man 11 first?.
